Great Value Timing Light

If you’re going to use this occasionally, it will serve you very well. The light seems to be well made and works great. It is plastic, so it probably won’t stand up to abuse, but it’s perfect for how I plan to use it. I wish it had come with a case but at this price I can understand why it doesn’t.

Good basic light

Works well, seems sturdy enough. The only reasons I didn’t give it a five are for a few minor points, one design, one construction. Design…I don’t see any reason this unit couldn’t have been made more compact & therefore easier to store. There’s no real need for it to be any wider than it is in the handle area, & I’m not sure why it needs to be so long, unless it’s to help get the light end closer to the timing marks on some engines (I bought to use on a Miata). Construction…The battery clamps could be a bit heavier duty & have better covers than the typical slip-on plastic sleeves that eventually slip off & go missing. Springs are nice & strong, though.

Things I did like: Bright light. On/off button that doesn’t need to be held down. Contemporary design. Swivel head is convenient. Removable cord makes untangling and preparing for storage easier. Induction clamp seems solid. Case is hopefully a tough ABS plastic that will withstand normal knocks & has no need for silly “chrome” plating.

Pretty good for the price

Equus 3551 Xenon Inductive Timing Light

I’m sure there are better ones out there, but for the price this is a pretty good light. It’s a little bulky trying to point at the timing marks on the front of an engine but the head swivel helps out a little bit. I just needed a basic light to adjust my timing a little bit, and this worked. If you need a light for anything beyond that I would suggest a better one.

It’s perfect

Nice decal. I bought this decal to make myself a batman clutch to go with my batgirl costume. I bought a cheap, plain black faux leather clutch, emptied out the clutch and laid it flat, centered the decal and stuck it on (no water needed). Then I peeled off the backing and smooth out. It worked perfectly! The decal sticks well on fake leather, and is very well made and durable. It is a nice bright yellow, and a good size. Now I have somewhere to put my makeup, money, and cell phone on Halloween:)

Seems to work – very cheap charge controller.

Picked this up for pop-up camper and a week of dry camping in 90 degree heat at the beach. Our goal was to run two fans 8-10 hours/night and keep two iPhones charged for 5 nights, 4 days without any power source.

Product arrived as described. Controller appears to be very cheaply made, wires seem like they are undersized, and the controller unit was broken on delivery (transistor bouncing around in the box). I soldered the transistor back onto the board (night before departure, no time for a return) and it appeared to work. In full sun and aligned, the panel produced about 17.6 volts and 1.6 amps.

Started off with a new Group 27 Marine/RV deep cycle battery, fully charged. We had two days of sun and two of clouds (the last two). I set the panel on a chair next to our camper at about 45 degrees each day and did my best to keep it aligned with the sun, though most of the charging time it was not perfectly aligned. The last two days, in particular, it was very cloudy and not well aligned. I unhooked the battery from the camper completely each day so the controller was connected only to the battery – completely unhooking and storing the panel/controller at night.

Result: 5 full nights of two fans running 8-10 hours (02 12 volt, 700mA fans), 2 iphones charging each night. By my imperfect math, the battery might have delivered 3 days of fans without any charging before being dead. So – I take this to mean that the panel did the job.

PROS – panel works as described, charging controller appears to have done what it was intended to. For basic uses such as the one above, the panel could keep you running for a long time (assuming it was really working at capacity). Relatively small and easy to store. I can’t speak to longevity of either daily charging performance or the panel over time.

CONS – charger is about as cheap as they come – mine was broken. Panel has very sharp edges and limited mounting options. Cable turns out to be pretty short. Charger offers no information about power being generated or battery status.

Great Solar Panel for Small RV

I bought this for my Aliner camper to keep the battery up. Seeing my camper is an aframe it’s pretty easy to just lay it out over a bubble to collect the suns rays, although I think we may build a mount so we can redirect it in any direction rather than just two. Initially I set it up in my driveway in full south eastern sun and the battery under load recovered very fast. I also ran the battery low on purpose (less than 12v) and it recovered quickly to 13.6v. I noticed it was also charging on overcast days and even though I checked the voltage with a meter I can’t remember how much, but it did the job. We also changed over our light bulbs inside the camper to leds and that has helped with the draw. We do a lot of dry camping. We just came back from our first dry trip with the panel, and a week of charging cell phones and psps, running lights, water pump and other little things the battery is at a full charge and the panel got very little direct sun on a wooded site. So this panel seems to fit our needs fine. We are not running heat yet and we aren’t using a ton of power either. Most people go bigger but I didn’t want to have to pack up a huge panel or worry about where to store it and the extra weight. This panel is small and very easy to deal with. We picked up a 2 pin plug from Radio Shack so we could disconnect from the battery without having to access it. I run the cord through the electrical cord port. It was packaged well and everything was there. I am very happy with this panel and recommend it to anyone that would like to keep up a 12v battery under light use. I’m also pretty pleased I can leave it set up at home and not have to plug into the house. I’ll try to add some pictures soon. (PS. I don’t really think the controller is needed for such a small panel, but it is nice to see the led lights letting you know if it’s charging or sending power).

Works fine, not easy to mount

The panel seems to work fine – I have no means of measuring its effectiveness other than that it keeps the battery for my gate charged. It is a little challenging to mount. It does not include a mount, and the back of the panel only has four small holes in the “frame”. There is not much clearance between the frame and the panel for fasteners.

Life’s hard lessons have taught me to now ALWAYS use this stuff on bolts. Especially if you the bolt is going into something that vibrates AT ALL or is exposed to alot of jarring/shifting.

Being mindful of putting this on will save you money on parts and repairs, I learned that with my riding mower!

Better Than Most

Brit Mag never short on laffs, great pics and interesting, substantive articles. Definitely not PC, rude, literate humor is the norm. Not a candy rag that just prints the publicity from the MC corporations either. Hands out criticism equally w/just praise. Sport bike centric, faired & unfaired, other bikes are given articles but they aren’t the focus here. With that said, they try to convey the feeling of riding and living w/all bikes. Always have one or more articles about interesting travel or bike event, so if you don’t have the time or resources you can at least read about it. Loads of good, critical gear reviews. Well put together and good looking. Not cheap, but worth it.

Bike Magazine is A Hoot!

After you get a load of Bike the USA magazines will read like advertising slicks. It is the real deal for riding enthusiasts, written by riders for riders. They do excellent equipment and bike reviews, but the best articles are about the local heroes playing motorcycle in England and the continent. These guys aren’t trying to get a job on a high paying car magazine, they are telling their friends, and you are privileged to be among them if you are a reader, about what’s happening on the scene. The language is raw and so are the opinions. It is unpretentious British “working class” writing about a “working class” experience. It is the best general motorcycle riding magazine for the money, even though it costs two to three times more than American magazines. These guys are real, not a lot of posers, and they know what they’re talking about.

Not recommended! Good for about 3 months!

I used this for my Kia Optima 2004 model and its great. The earlier wipers made noises like nails on a chalkboard. But this is totally streak free, very quiet and is easy to install. Actually, its more like push it into place, rather than install! And what’s more I got two wipers for about [...]. Highly recommended by someone who has had a hard time with bad wipers! Thanks…

Streaks after 2 months of use

Already have issues with these wipers after 2 months of use. I only purchased these since there was a rebate at the time – will NOT purchase these again. They are loud since first use. And now there are streaks – doesnt wipe away all water from windshield. I use rainx frenquently.

not new in box, wiper blade bent

I will never buy this product from amazon again. The blades I received had already been opened (and amazon indicated they were new in the box) and the 22″ blade is bent, meaning it does not wipe the whole surface area as intended. I already had thrown out the box or would have returned the item.

I remember this air chuck from when I was a kid filling up my bike tires & parents car.
It was so easy & quick to fill & check air presser with this gage
You don’t see many used any more because people steal them!!
So gas stations get tired of replacing them…
I bought a small air compressor for my garage last year and use it for filling my auto & bike tires
So when I was filling with the air chuck, then checking with the presser gage I though I must see how much one of those cool air chuck / presser gages I used to use at the local gas station cost.
If you have a small air compressor for your garage and use it for your auto, bike
I think it is well worth the money.
The unit is very well built out of solid aluminum and gives a accurate reading too.

Works perfectly, but lacks directions

This worked perfectly in my 2005 Toyota Corolla. It goes right with the car and makes the radio look perfect. It puts a 1-DIN radio in a 2-DIN space, and bevels right with the Toyota design making it look kind of like an original design rather than an add-on. The only thing that I would have added to their design if I had had the chance is instructions for the car model it is designed for. While it is easy to find various versions of directions for the Toyota Corolla on the internet, there is no way to know the quality of the instructions you find. The radio that I bought had a service for looking up various car models’ directions online, but then, in the end, that database was incomplete, and I had to rely on one of the high school kid’s postings found with Google. Since this dash kit is made specificially for that car model, this is the most logical part with which to include the directions. Oh, by the way, I will give you the directions, here:

Disconnect the battery just to be extra safe. (Some people cite airbag accidental release problems, but I do not think that that is a risk.) Carefully pry off the shifter cover. It takes only steady pressure. Disconnect the cigarette lighter/charger to get the panel out of the way. Remove the center A/C knob, and remove the screw. Then pry off the clock A/C cover. Again, slow steady pressure. Pry off the radio cover. You guessed it: slow steady pressure. The radio is secured with 4 hex screws, 10mm if I recall correctly. They are deep, so you need a long hex driver (and maybe a magnet). They fall and get lost easily. If they do, you might be able to find them on the carpet or by reaching back around things.

The dash kit comes with instructions for mounting it on the radio. You should strongly consider a wire harness Metra 70-1761 Radio Wiring Harness For Toyota 87-Up Power 4 Speaker. It makes it easy to disconnect the radio, later. After the radio is tested, reverse the operations, above. Good luck!

Toyota Corolla Dash Kit

I bought this dash kit along with Sony CDX-GT630UI and Scosche TA02B Wiring Harness (all from Amazon.com) for a installation in my 03′ Toyota Corolla. I have never installed a car stereo before, and was a bit apprehensive about doing it myself, but decided to give it a try. The unit’s color is a bit off, but not too obvious, and the fit could be a bit better. The instruction that came with the unit is at best marginal, and I had to Google quite a bit to get sufficient information I needed to take the front panels off to install the unit. However, after two hour of hard work, I am very happy to say that everything works great. I am also glad that I decided to do this on my own. The total cost was about $125. A car stereo shop nearby wanted $300 to turn my factory installed Toyota stereo (which I think everyone would agree isn’t that great) iPod compatible, so I feel like doing this myself was a great decision. You will need some tools: I found out only after taking the front panels off that I would need at least 10″ socket extension to remove the stereo housing. But if you are relatively okay with using tools, I recommend doing it yourself and saving yourself a bit of money.

Great Product!

I used this dash kit for my 04 Corolla and it worked great. I used it with a single din sony stereo. This is the first stereo I have installed and it was a perfect fit!

Excellent output for a small pair of panels. Speakers are horrible without modification

I bought this guy as a nice emergency item and also for camping. I connected the panel to my HTC G2 Android phone while it was playing the radio out of the included Goal0 speakers. I had the panels positioned in a not-so-optimal way with only moderate sunlight and it charged my phone about 12% in an hour WHILE the radio was draining the battery and connected to the external speakers. That battery is rated at 1500mah for anyone who cares about the specifics. The other piece that I purchased alongside this kit was the Goal0 battery charging pod. You can place 4 AA size NIMH batteries in the pod for charging with the solar panel. When there is no sunlight around, you can use your available AA batteries to charge your USB devices. I used the charging pod to recharge my smartphone again at night as well as my Kindle. Honestly, if you have a lot of good quality low self discharge batteries around (Like Eneloops) you can pretty much get away with not buying the solar panel at all, the charging pod will pretty much do the job in the short term.

As far as the speaker goes, the sound is AWFUL out of the box. As others have mentioned in their reviews of these speakers, the cones are covered by a heavy cardboard material. I simply took a flathead screwdriver and used it to break the glue seal around the edge of speaker that adheres it to the case. After that, I used the flathead to pry out the speaker from the case. From there you can see the inside of the casing is lined with cardboard, and on that cardboard, there’s a fine indentation where the speakers are. I used a boxcutter to cut circles out where the speaker cones are. Place the speakers back in the casing and you’re good to go. One note about this modification is that obviously the speakers are more than likely no longer “water resistant” as originally advertised.

All in all, very happy with the purchase. I docked one star for the speakers being horrible as they were out of the box.

as a test I rode 46.7 miles on my bike with it in the pouch in the bag and my HTC EVO 4G connected to it with the standard battery, i turned on the 3G, 4G, wifi, GPS (OF COURSE) SYNC accounts running in the background also with Google “MY Tracks” running. setting of update every min/max dist 33/656feet.announcement every 1 mile. long story short 5:08:14 h:m:s I got tired of riding and it was still at 93% . it was a beautiful sunny day in the city.

Cons
in low light
When my phone died there was still sunlight even though it was looking like it was charging it wasn’t it was in fact being drained by the solar panel AKA acted like it was hooked up to a computer and drained the battery in under 1.5 hours. may have been the setting on my phone but idk.

conclude with this:
disconnect your device in low light or they need to make a reverse flow block circuit.

Lightweight Way to Recharge Electronics in the Field

I purchased the Nomad 7 / Rockout Combo from Amazon about one month ago and wanted to test it before commenting. It weighed 370 gms / 13.1 oz. on the kitchen scale without any cables. Just like the other Goal Zero products it is well designed and well made using quality materials. If taken care of should last decades (do not throw on the floor or drive the truck over it, like the You Tube videos). It is nice to see the solar panel can take the abuse if an accident happens.

The solar panels are mounted to a heavy plastic sheet which gives the rigidity needed to protect the thin brittle solar cells (think a thin potato chip strength). The fronts of the solar panels are covered with an unknown clear plastic reminiscent of Tedlar. The outer shell is covered in a material that looks and feels like Cordura, so it should wear very well, most quality backpacks are made of this material. The built-in pouch is a perfect size for the Guide 10 and all but the 12 volt car lighter adapter (which could be carried if you plug it in the regulator / converter and place the large end between the pouch and regulator. I find it is best to carry it externally if you need it. I fold the flap with the regulator / charger behind the solar panel when charging to keep the electronics in the shade. Eight loops (not bungee cord loops) all around the Nomad 7 allow many ways to attach the unit to a pack or sticks for charging. It was easy to attach to my Maxpedition pack with Paracord 550 and charge while I was walking.

How does it work? Surprisingly well! I did a lot tests in the Arizona sun in July and August it held up well to sun intensity and heat. This is our monsoon season which means clouds and rain once in a while (intermittent sunlight). The Nomad 7 charged 50 NiMH batteries in the Guide 10 very well under all kinds of sky conditions. Even an overcast sky where the panel did not cast a shadow it still recharged low NiMH batteries in about 6 hours. Using the USB adaptor charged low tech LG cellphone in an hour in normal sunlight (it also charged cellphone using 12V 4W lighter adaptor). So far I have been able to charge a digital camera, Kaito Voyager radio, VHF / UHF transceiver and the Guide 10 in reasonable times. It allows you to use your equipment more since you can now recharge in the field and not be so concerned with conserving battery power.

As far as the Rockout Speaker goes, for the size they sound very good with my player. They charge up in an hour with the Nomad 7 Solar Panel. If weight and volume are considerations in a backpack, then you might leave them behind and use earbuds. Otherwise, they are great to have along as a luxury item. If you are car camping, then they are a great asset to the camping experience, nice to listen to music without the earbuds.

I am delighted with the Nomad 7 / Rockout Speaker Combo. They are well engineered and perform very well. The Nomad 7 Solar Panel is perfect for light weight backpacking.
